Philipp Adelhelm is a materials scientist and received his education at the University of Stuttgart and the Max-Planck-Institute for Metals Research. After graduation in 2004, he joined the group of Prof. Markus Antonietti at the Max-Planck-Institute of Colloids and Interfaces and worked on carbon materials with tailored porosity.
He received his PhD in Physical Chemistry in 2007 and continued his academic career as a post doc at Utrecht University (de Jongh group) studying sodium and magnesium based hydrogen storage materials.
As a group leader at the Justus Liebig University Giessen (2009-2015, group of Jürgen Janek) he explored the cell chemistry of sodium-based batteries. During 2015-2019, he was a professor at the Institute for Technical Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry (ITUC) at the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena. Since October 2019, he is a professor at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Currently, he is also leading a joint research group on operando battery analysis between Humboldt-University and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB).
