PhD in Chemistry: Bioorganic Synthesis of peptide nucleic acid conjugates and cell studies

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate interested in bioorganic chemistry and interdisciplinary research at the chemistry/biochemistry interface. The project involves the chemical synthesis of peptide nucleic acid conjugates using solid phase peptide synthesis and conjugation chemistry. The project also involves studies on cellular delivery by fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry, the development of cellular bioassays as well as antisense activity tests.

Requirements: Completed university degree (master or equivalent) in the field of (bio)organic chemistry with preferably very good grades, theoretical and practical experience in peptide chemistry, nucleic acid chemistry and knowledge of bioassays are beneficial; openness to interdisciplinary research projects in the field of natural sciences and high motivation for independent scientific work; very good communication and teamwork skills; very good written and spoken English skills.

Application: Please send your application (containing statement of purpose, CV, copies of relevant degree certificates and a contact person for reference) to Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Department of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Oliver Seitz (located: Brook-Taylor-Str. 2, Berlin-Adlershof), Unter den Linden 6, 10099 Berlin, Germany or preferably as a pdf document to the E mail address seitzlab@chemie.hu-berlin.de.
