Research

The orientation and extent of research in Chemistry Education have considerably changed over the past years. Priority programs, research units, and research training groups funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) as well as projects within EU Research Framework Programs or the European Science Foundation pertain to an increasingly important discipline. Research associations, like the Gesellschaft der Didaktik der Physik und Chemie (Society for Physics and Chemistry Education) on a national, and the European Science Education Research Association on an international level, have high numbers of members, and regular congresses further worldwide cooperations and networks.

The Chemistry Education research profile at Humboldt University is based on the empirical analysis of teaching/learning processes in different contexts. The analysis of educational processes is one of the basic instruments to understand the interconnection between teaching and learning. It provides educational research projects with issues, arisen from instructional practice, and permits the evaluation of educational intervention measures. Triggered by interdisciplinary questions, science education forms an intersection of interests with related disciplines like Instructional Psychology or Education Sciences, permitting to investigate current aspects of competency acquisition and diagnostic competency against a theoretical background.
