Selective Catalytic Hydrofluorination of Alkynes
The Braun group has developed unprecedented Pt catalyzed catalytic hydrofluorination reactions to yield (Z)-fluoroalkenes. Model reactions show that water and air stable Pt(ii)-fluorido complexes bearing 2-(3-methyl)indolylphosphine ligands can activate alkynes at the metal centre. The fluoride is then bound in a hydrogen bonding network in the outer coordination sphere allowing for a subsequent C-F bond formation. (Z)-fluoroalkenes are considered as isosteric building blocks to a peptide moiety.
